About ObsMapp

Record nature observations with GPS and timestamp data using ObsMapp, the field naturalist's essential digital notebook. Capture every sighting exactly where and when it happens, then seamlessly upload your findings to major citizen science portals from anywhere—whether you're deep in the field or back home on WiFi.

ObsMapp transforms how you document wildlife encounters. Each observation automatically locks in your precise GPS location and the exact time you made the sighting, ensuring scientific accuracy without manual data entry. When you're ready, upload directly to waarneming.nl, waarnemingen.be, or observado.org—all from the field using your device's internet connection, or later from home. You'll receive an email confirming your contributions and showing where your observations appear on the community portal.

Field work doesn't require constant connectivity. Navigate and map your observations using the built-in offline OpenStreetMaps, or switch to online Google Maps when you need real-time features. This flexibility means you stay productive even in areas with spotty reception, then sync your data when you return to coverage. Create custom species lists to organize your research, and attach photos and sound recordings directly to each sighting to document behavior, plumage, or vocalizations for later review and species identification.

Access an unparalleled species database with over 450,000 bird species and subspecies from around the world—continuously updated as new taxonomic information emerges. Whether you're tracking vagrant species or documenting resident populations, the app covers every bird on Earth. Language support includes English, Dutch, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, and Hungarian, making it accessible to naturalists worldwide.

Connect with a global community of observers. View recent sightings from other users near your location to discover hotspots and learn what others are finding. Request identification help from experienced birders and receive constructive feedback on your observations. This crowdsourced expertise accelerates your learning and strengthens the scientific value of your data.

ObsMapp integrates seamlessly with smartwatches through the optional ObsWatch companion app—activate it in the phone app settings to log sightings from your wrist. Whether you're a casual birdwatcher, an ornithologist conducting field surveys, or a dedicated citizen scientist, ObsMapp streamlines observation collection and transforms your fieldwork into meaningful data that advances conservation and ecological research.
